High loading speeds require a reliable and powerful pick-up. The Pöttinger suspended pickup with eight rows of tines delivers impressive performance – even at high travelling speeds and in all harvest conditions.
 Hochleistungs-Pick-up |
High capacity Pick-up
The Pöttinger pick-up guarantees maximum performance, even in difficult harvesting conditions such as in damp and short grass.
- The 2.0-m wide, controlled 8-row pick-up delivers an increase in performance of up to 20%.
- The collection area from the pick-up tines to the rotor has also been optimised and adapted to the rotor capacity.
- Maintenance-friendly – cam track only needs to be lubricated once a year; the main bearing on
the cam arm every 80 loads – lubrication points are externally mounted.
- Clean forage thanks to tempered transfer plates that help separate the soil from the forage. This protects the chopping unit.
|
Only a clean crop can guarantee trouble-free fermentation for high quality silage.
- The pick-up is controlled from both ends by a cam track made of steel with a solid centre. The sealed twin-groove roller bearings on the cam rollers are designed to withstand high stress.
- The pick-up tines are swept back to prevent damage to the sward, the throwing up of soil, and unnecessary wear on the tines.
Perfect ground hugging – height-adjustable 16 x 6.5-8 trailed jockey wheels
- The wheels sweep the ground on the same line as the tines, and guide the pick-up perfectly through each hollow. These wheels are free to castor allowing easy cornering.
- A height-adjustable windguard with a large diameter swath roller ensures perfect forage flow even when loading is fast and the crop is short and wet.

8-wheel chassis – perfect soil protection up to 24 sh t / 22 t total weight
On this unique chassis the wheels sit in pairs on the self-aligning
axles. The rear axle pairs are equipped with trailed steering,
thereby protecting both the wheels and the turf. A hydraulic
levelling system with patented pendulum swing action ensures
optimum ground pressure distribution. This improves stability
on slopes. The hydraulic suspension optimises driving comfort,
and pneumatic or hydraulic braking systems ensure a high
braking performance even at speed.
Due to the lower platform height in comparison with 26.5”
tyres, The discharge end of the rotor is only 3.54” / 90-mm
below the scraper floor. This conserves power and increases
the flowrate.

autocut - automatic knife sharpening system
| |
 autocut |
New „autocut“: Sharpens blades directly on the self loading wagon
- The “autocut” blade sharpener allows for convenient blade
sharpening directly on the self loading wagon. The sharpening cycle can easily be preselected in accordance with the wear on the knife using the control pad.
- This considerably reduces maintenance expenses and simultaneously guarantees long lasting optimal cutting quality with
lower energy consumption and increased output.
|
 autocut |
- Removing the blades for sharpening, which formerly took place only once a day, thereby
impairing the cutting quality, has now come to an end.
- Intensive use of over 10 to 20 hours per day i nevitably reduces the sharpness of the blades.
- This inc reases power demands and fuel consumption up to 15%, in stony areas up to 20%.
- With the new blade sharpening system the sharpness is maintained throughout the entire day – it is simple and fully automatic.
- This equals up to 15% more output and also up to 15% less diesel fuel consumption thanks
to “autocut”.

Easy Move pivoting knife bank
| |
Pöttinger lead the industry by introducing the Easy Move pivoting knife bank back in 1999. This unique pivoting knife bank makes knife changes effortless.
Easy Move pivoting knife bank |
Easy Move – You can’t get simpler than this
- The chopping unit is lowered hydraulically either from the tractor seat or by pressing the button on the left-hand side of the wagon.
- The whole knife bank can be swung out sideways in the traditional Pöttinger fashion.
|
Easy Move pivoting knife bank |
- The knives can be automatically released via the central knife release and removed without the need for any tools.
- The pressure springs and rocker arm for securing individual knives are located in the protected area. This considerably reduces the amount of soil which accumulates in the knife mountings.
- A cleaning scraper, which automatically cleans spaces between the knives every time the knife bank is lowered, is also available on request.

Pendular Suspension
| |
The 6.56’ / 2.0 m wide pickup delivers incredible performance even with heavy or irregular swaths.
The pickup has six rows of tines. The central metal support disc provides a high
level of strength. The super “C” steel tines are bolted to the sturdy U–profile tine bars. The U profile reinforces the spring winding in heavy crops.
The narrow tine spacing of 2.17” / 55 mm means that the forage is collected cleanly and evenly at high speeds.
The pickup is controlled using two cam tracks made from steel with solid centres and an inspection cap is integrated into the housing. The cam rollers are two-row, permanently lubricated roller bearings (diameter of 1.58” / 40 mm), are sturdy and designed for large crops of forage.
The pickup tines are swept back to prevent damage to the sward, the throwing up of soil, and unnecessary wear on the tines.
Pendular suspension
Clean forage thanks to tempered transfer plates that separate the dirt from the forage. This protects the chopping unit.
Protects the sward by adjusting to the contours of the ground: Two-way heightadjustable castor wheels are in the optimum position for tine contour following. Two hinged support links give the pickup full mobility. In addition to this, spring suspension ensures low, soil-protecting ground pressure –
suspension is available as an option.
Automatic cut-off of pickup drive in D-type trailers – if the pickup is raised, drive is disconnected.

Perfect ground hugging
The pneumatic castor rear wheels (16 x 6.5-8) are standard.
The wheels sweep the ground on the same line as the tines,

Powermatic Loading rotor
| |
The structure of the forage greatly determines its digestability. The rotor must be able to compress the forage even with a high flow. Powermatic is at the heart of Pöttinger silage trailers: Powerful, robust and capable. The rotor is suited to unlimited tractor power.
The silage collector
The Powermatic-loading rotor has a diameter of 31.5” / 800 mm and consists of 8 rows of teeth. The teeth are arranged in a helix in order to ensure jolt-free and smooth loading without torque peaks. The feed teeth ensure the continuous collection of the crop and the smooth preliminary pressing of the forage. This makes sure that the silage trailer is completely filled. The Powermatic-loading rotor is supported on both sides with self-aligning roller bearings. On the drive side the bearing is positioned between the rotor and the gear – reducing the load on the bearing.
Hardened feed teeth
The feed teeth are made of hardened fine-grain boron steel. JUMBO: 0.47” / 12 mm, TORRO: 0.39” / 10 mm thick.

The Powermatic loading rotor
 Scrapers
Specially positioned scrapers
The scrapers are positioned and bolted into place individually. Placing the scrapers at an ideal distance from the rotor teeth reduces energy expenditure. The scrapers have a large surface area, which prevents the forage from being crushed. Scraper width: JUMBO: 0.71”/18 mm, TORRO: 0.79”/20mm.
|
|
Simple!

Maintenance made easy
The tine rings are clipped into the inner drum. Each ring can be replaced individually.

Reduced energy requirement
Simple but effective – a technical detail on the rotor discharge. The discharge end of the rotor is only 3.54” / 90 mm below the scraper floor. This protects the forage and enables the trouble-free loading of the loading chamber, especially when working in wet conditions. Powermatic. This conserves power and increases the flow rate.

Unique cutting unit
| |
A precise and consistent cut is the basis for the best silage quality. The exceptional cutting quality of Pöttinger silage trailers has been confirmed in independent test reports.
This unique-to-the-market swing out knife bank makes light work of changing the knives.

TORRO knife bank

JUMBO knife bank
The chopping unit is lowered hydraulically either from the tractor seat or by
pressing the button on the left-hand side of the wagon.
The whole knife bank can be swung out sideways in the traditional Pöttinger fashion. The knives can be automatically released via the central knife release and
removed without the need for any tools.
The pressure springs and rocker arm for securing individual knives are located in the protected area. This considerably reduces the amount of dirt which accumulates in the knife mountings.
A dirt scraper, which automatically cleans spaces between the knives every time the knife bank is lowered, is also available on request.
Knife protection - A reassuring device
Time and cost pressures make machine idle time an expensive business.
Foreign bodies are a danger to the most important elements of the
machine – the rotor and chopping unit. Pöttinger protects the heart of the
silage wagon with an innovative device – patented foreign-body security. Each knife is individually protected.
 Schema knife protection |
- Smaller pieces fall through baffle plates between the pickup and the rotor.
- Larger foreign bodies are pushed by the rotor onto the knife
and move it briefly in the direction of rotation.
- The trigger roll is lifted out of its holder at the back of the knife. The knife releases the foreign body. The resistance is minimal, which
protects the knife!
- After the foreign body has passed the chopping unit, the knife springs back to its original position.
|
What’s special at Pöttinger:
The triggering pressure is independent of the size and point of contact of the
foreign body.
|
|
Simple!
 1. Easy lowering of knife bank by pressing the button
on the left-hand side of the trailer

2. Undo the bolting mechanism bolts and pivot the
bank out to the side
 3. Release the knives using the lever
Razor sharp!

The original with serrated knives
The knives are made of hardened tool-steel and the serration on one side ensures a precise cut even if the knife edge is dulled. The forage is always cut cleanly and not torn apart due to its pull-back chopping action. The knife shape provides a continuous sliding cut.
The new JUMBO knives with extra-strong backs and wide wave cut
ensure a prolonged service life.

Increasing load volumes and high transport speeds necessitate robust and soilprotecting chassis. Pöttinger has made great efforts in this area, responding with highquality, steering tandem or tridem axle and tyres with large footprints.
Tandem axle with parabolic suspension up to 22 t / 20 t total weight
Parabolic suspension with large spring-to-axle spacing and compensator for height regulation. Ideal suspension hopping properties at the silo and smooth running in fields and on the road. Stable trailing linkages apply the braking and steering force. An advantage of parabolic suspension with a large spring-to-axle spacing is better handling control on slopes.
The 4-wheel pneumatic brake system with automatic load-dependent braking system (ALB) controls ensures safe braking at high speed and with heavy loads. Can also be fitted with ABS if required. Hydraulic brakes can be supplied for some countries. Equipped with steering axle as standard.
Jockey steering axle (Standard for JUMBO) The rear axle pairs trail freely, thereby protecting both the wheels and the turf.

Boogie tandem axle (optional for Jumbo) up to 22 t / 20 t total weight Robust chassis for high speed stability and large axle pendulum swing for smooth load distribution with three-leaf parabolic springs. |
 |
Tandem axle with hydropneumatic suspension (optional for JUMBO) Hydropneumatic suspension with levelling valve for 25 t / 23 t total permissible weight. Ideal suspension hopping properties at the silo and smooth running in fields and on the road. Strong trailing linkages apply the braking and steering force. | TRIDEM Chassis
Soil protection with three axles (optional for JUMBO) Protecting the soil is the first priority. The Pöttinger tridem chassis distributes high loads across a large area so that the pressure on the ground remains low. Up to 33 t / 30 t total weight.
The large axle regulation is a special feature. A hydro - pneumatic suspension enables an axle pendulum swing of 10.63” / 270 mm. This allows the axle load to be distributed evenly. The trailer benefits from reduced side forces and runs quietly – with steering on both sides. Tests show that this saves fuel. The axle regulation ensures even wear of brakes on all axles.
8-wheel chassis
Perfect soil protection
Heavy machinery and high wheel pressure make soil protection a central issue. The 8-wheel chassis significantly reduces soil compaction. Up to 19.8 t / 18 t total weight.
On this unique chassis the wheels sit in pairs on the self-aligning axles. The rear axle pairs trail freely, thereby protecting both the wheels and the turf. A hydraulic leveller with patented pendulum swing ensures optimum pressure distribution. This improves slope efficiency. The hydraulic suspension optimises driving comfort, and pneumatic or hydraulic braking systems ensure a high braking performance even at speed. Due to the lower platform height in comparison with 26.5” tyres, the loading rotor can move more freely.

Floating pick-up
| |
High loading speeds require a reliable and powerful pick-up.
Only a clean crop can guarantee trouble-free fermentation for high energy-content silage.
That is what the Pöttinger floating pick-up is designed for.
- The wide pick-up delivers incredible performance even with heavy and irregular swaths. There is less stress on the driver.
- Pick-up widths: FARO and EUROPROFI: 1.85 m.
- Six rows of tines and a tine spacing of 55 mm - every stem is picked up reliably even at high travelling speeds.
- The pick-up tines are bolted onto heavy gauge tubes. Heavy-duty Super "C"-quality tines have a longer service life.
The Pöttinger secret:
A newly-developed pickup suspension system with heavy-duty floating frame.
- Two hinged support links at either end provide excellent ground hugging. This pick-up adjusts both horizontally and vertically to the ground contours. Nothing is left behind: the turf remains undamaged and no dirt is picked up.
- The fine-tuned counter-springs absorb any shocks and prevent the pick-up from sinking in on damp ground.
- The height-adjustable rubber tyred wheels contact the ground on exactly the same line as the tines and guide the pick-up perfectly through each hollow.
- Steered jockey wheels enable the pick-up to corner with even less damage - standard equipment on the EUROPROFI, optional for FARO.
Swath roller
The height adjustable swath guide plate combined with a swath roller make sure you get perfect crop flow even at high speed and with short, wet crop. Standard equipment on the EUROPROFI. |

Pick-up!

Tempered transfer plates
Between the pick-up and the rotor the crop passes over transfer plates. Here, any foreign objects (such as stones) are able to fall through, away from the crop. This system is only available from Pöttinger. Both the rotor and the knives are protected.

Side inspection port
for quick check of rollers and cam track.

The pickup tine control rollers are made from dual deep-groove bearings and are designed for really punishing conditions.

JUMBO pick-up transmission
A heavy-duty bevel gear transmission submerged in oil ensures the pick-up runs smoothly in extreme operating conditions.

JUMBO - Powermatic
| |
This loading system is remarkable for its straightforward construction, heavy-duty bearings, smooth running and incredible loading capacity.
The crop flow is continuous, cut precisely with a knife gap of 34 mm, without power peaks.
Ongoing development
- The POWERMATIC loading rotor has bearings on the inside so the bending moment of the shaft is low. The rotor drum is made of hardened boron steel.
- Heavy-duty self-aligning roller bearings.
- The 12 mm thick feed rotor teeth are made from hardened fine-grained steel.
- The teeth are swept back so that they exit the crop cleanly (at 90°) with no risk of forage wrapping around the rotor.
- The teeth are arranged in an optimised helix for jolt-free and smooth loading without torque peaks.
- Proven positioning of knives in relation to the rotor. The power requirement is reduced dramatically, no loss due to disintegration.
JUMBO rotor transmission
Oversized bevel gear unit submerged in oil.
The drive system features a floating axle with fine toothing.
 |
The rotor transmission is mounted outside on the rotor shaft, ideal bearing spacing on the rotor (less bending stress).
Solid transmission housing (160 kg) |
P.T.O. transmission
The heavy-duty bevel gear unit is protected for tractors up to 280 hp.
The transmission splits the flow of power. One power train goes to the rotor and then on to the pickup.
The second powers the discharge beaters.
Floating shafts are used to transmit power from the main transmission to the rotor unit and to the angular gear unit for the beaters.
This system lets you dismantle the transmission rapidly to remove the rotor.
The scrapers
Scrapers are fitted individually, but secured by common mounting pin.
Stepped shape of scraper back absorbs pressure of crop inside trailer
Each knife has two tine rings, the high number of scrapers prevents the crop from wrapping around the rotor.
|
|
Loading rotor

The feed rings
are not welded to the rotor drum; they are just hooked in so that they can be replaced individually if required.

Protecting the crop
The tines are swept back so that they exit the crop cleanly with no risk of forage wrapping around the rotor.
