TERRASEM C 6 goes east
Two Pöttinger employees report on the first impressions from the east
The first TERRASEM C6 mulch seed drills were shipped from the Pöttinger seed drill works in Bernburg in September, and started out on their journey east. Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic and Poland were the countries in which the first machines were to be put into operation. Following theoretical training on-site, the machine was put to work on several of the many 1,000 hectares operated by this farming business. Thanks to its working width of 6 metres and its versatility, the TERRASEM C6 can operate in a wide range of conditions and crops, fully meeting the requirements in these regions.
In Romania, the first operations in the field were performed on the Moldavian border at the "Comcereal Vaslui" Ag-Association, with owner Adrian Porumboiu, a former FIFA referee. The main objective of the Ag-Association, which farms a total of 50,000 hectares and keeps 3,000 cattle, is the production of agricultural produce that they then process themselves. A total of around 20,000 people are employed here. The first run took place on a hill around 1.5 km away from the farmyard. On reaching the brow of the hill we could see mile after mile of farmland stretched out before us. The first field to be worked was 1.2 km wide and nearly 2 km long. Apart from fields, nothing else was visible on this plateau: "Everything you can see here belongs to Mr. Porumboiu", explained the technical manager. The drilling process was performed using a 280 horsepower tractor; at a working speed of 13 – 15 kph it is not uncommon to cover 70 hectares in twelve hours.
