TERRASEM conquers Chile
Pöttinger employee reports on debut performance
Pöttinger has been working in Chile together with Copeval since spring 2008. We reported on our cooperation in an earlier issue.
| Planting starts at the beginning of September in this South American country. In the south of Chile, spring seeding takes place between September and October, while autumn seeding is performed in the months of March to July. The grassland season in the dairy region in the south of Chile is from October to February, where Pöttinger is represented with machines such as the FARO, Novadisc, TOP 421 etc. This year sees the debut performance of TERRASEM seed drills in Chile. |  Pöttinger machines are ready for use in Chile |
Christoph Schürz, one of our customer service employees, reports on our seed drills being used in Chile for the first time.
I was at Copeval in Chile from 4 to 10 August to train the service technicians, coinciding with the first operation of a TERRASEM in the field. The training sessions were conducted in Copeval's new workshop in Osorno, which has been rented this year especially for the assembly of Pöttinger equipment. During training we focussed on the TERRASEM, since this was completely new to all participants and planting in Chile is also only performed by professionals who need to fully trust their seed drill. That is why it is important that the Copeval service technicians are 100% familiar with this machine.
The TERRASEM debut performance in the field was made on a beautiful, fairly warm day in the presence of the entire Copeval team. I found it pretty tough spending the first 3 days adjusting from summer in Austria to cold and wet winter weather with temperatures ranging between 0 and 5 °C, and required several jackets to keep warm.
The field test performed together with a customer went very well and the machine was well received. The people from Copeval were able to practice using the TERRASEM and could see how it works and the quality of the work it produces. The machine was used at Rodrigo Perez's farm, where it will be used to sow approx. 600 hectares per year.
