Pöttinger doubles turnover in just five years
A pure performance
The 2007/2008 financial year once again underlines the successful course taken by Pöttinger: with total sales rising sharply to EUR 240 million, the family-owned business has succeeded in doubling turnover in only five years. The company's remarkable growth of 20.7 percent is thanks to the successful partnership with over 1,100 dedicated employees and the global sales partner network.

Grassland technology, accounting for 71 percent in the agricultural technology sector, is the main contributor, followed by tillage at 21 percent. The clear winner in terms of growth is tillage, recording a sensational 45 percent growth compared to the previous year. Pöttinger has also grown strongly in the other sectors compared to the previous year: 16 percent in grassland technology and 20 percent in the original spare parts business. |
Family company and global player
As a family-run business which is rich in tradition, Pöttinger naturally has close ties to the domestic market of Austria and has grown with it. However, the success has also come together with a high degree of internationalisation: the sharp increase in turnover is largely attributable to sales soaring in foreign markets. In the financial year under review the total export share amounted to 84 percent with around EUR 201.2 million of sales revenues from international business. In addition to the western and eastern European markets, the family business has also gained a firm foothold in North America and Oceania, having opened the sales subsidiary Poettinger US Inc. and TOV Pöttinger Ukraine in the financial year under review.
Around 66 percent of agricultural technology turnover was attributable to five countries: Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and Czech Republic. The top five turnover growth countries in terms of absolute machine sales compared to the previous year are Germany, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Ukraine.
In the grassland market, mowers increased 23.3 percent compared to the previous fiscal year, loader wagons 11 percent and windrowers and tedders 21.5 percent. In the tillage market the absolute highlights are stubble cultivators and disc harrows with a growth of 81.6 percent, ploughs with about 55 percent and seed drill technology at 21.2 percent.
The key to success
The international success of the company is largely due to commitment to business partnerships. Taking into account customer requirements led to an extensive product range in agricultural technology and tillage. This means that Pöttinger matches the whole spectrum of requirements of its customers, both individually and throughout the world. The company's passion for innovations has resulted not only in new, innovative machine and process concepts but also in global leadership in the loader wagon sector. Pöttinger's high-performance technology has seen the loader wagon go from strength to strength in many markets around the world. This process plays a major role in cutting energy costs by reducing diesel costs by up to 50 percent compared to other systems. The cost-effectiveness of the process and the increased business success of the agricultural companies as a result are indications of the future potential.
With the ISOBUS system Pöttinger lives up to its reputation as a technical and innovative pioneer also in the field of electronics: numerous ISOBUS compatible machines (loader wagons, mowers, seed drills and ploughs) have been shipped in recent years.
Our customers – our markets
Strong in the domestic market
Farmers in the domestic market demand quality from Austria, which has enabled Pöttinger to increase their previously high turnover by an additional 4.9 percent. The development of the tillage sector is particularly impressive with a growth of 39 percent on the previous year.
Continued growth for Germany
German business increased by 15.5 percent in total. Grassland put on a powerful boost of 21.4 percent with increasing in tillage by 1.5 percent. The very positive image that Pöttinger has among the future-oriented business in Germany, plus the investments in the service field, have fuelled this growth considerably.
Czech Republic and Slovakia break all records yet again
Growth of 100 percent in the tillage sector, 15 percent in the grassland technology sector in the Czech and Slovakian market clearly demonstrates the company's trend for growth in the eastern European countries. Pöttinger remains the clear number 1 in the Czech Republic.
Market gains secured in France
French sales continued to grow: 17 percent in the grassland sector and 58.6 percent in tillage. As a result, France now occupies third place in the country rankings according to machine sales.
5 years Pöttinger AG Suisse
Once more Pöttinger Suisse underlines the successful course: 40 percent increase of the turn over since formation of the company. The clear winner in terms of growth are the loader wagons.
Investing today in the success of tomorrow
Managing Directors Heinz and Klaus Pöttinger are looking optimistically into the future: "Our innovations and achievements today, such as the global leadership in the loader wagon segment, the pioneering role in the field of front-mounted mowers and the many years of experience in soil cultivation and seed drills, form the basis for our future success. With this in mind we are well prepared for upcoming challenges and continued growth."
