James Hudson – Torro 5100L

Harvesting forage with a wagon – user stories - part 4

Having only been contracting for 4 years James Hudson was keen to find a service that wasn’t being offered by other contractors to allow him to grow his business. It was with this in mind and only 450 acres of silage work confirmed that James purchased a Pottinger Torro 5100L loader wagon last year. Now some might say this was a gamble but for James it was an opportunity to be seized. "I was considering what direction I should take my business and the costs and manpower involved with a self propelled forage harvester system did not appeal, but the more I studied the Pottinger loader wagon system the more it made sense". "I looked at loader wagons of all brands available in the UK, but none of them came close to the Pottinger loader wagon in terms of quality, strength and performance. Many of the other brands were offering machines direct from the manufacturer, which meant they were cheaper to purchase but they had no dealer network or service and parts support based in the UK. To me this was a critical factor as I cannot afford down time in season. My local Pottinger dealer provides excellent backup and is only a few miles away. Coupled to a Fendt 716 Vario tractor the Pottinger Torro 5100L loader wagon has proved an ideal pairing.

"The work rate has been phenomenal. I have been achieving work rates of between 70 and 118 acres in a 10 hour day which is more than I ever anticipated". Word soon spread around James’s customers and his work load increased by 300%. Customers have been praising how clean the Pottinger wagon leaves the field, the re-growth has been even and better than before and there is no spilt or blown crop left in the field.

Many of my customers have seen improvements in herd health and fertility, the cows have certainly benefited from the longer chop forage produced by the Torro wagon. Leading on from his success with the Pottinger wagon James purchased a Pottinger Novacat 306F ED Alpha Motion front mounted mower conditioner which he runs in combination with his rear mounted mower conditioner for the silage season. But the fact that the Pottinger Novacat has a removable conditioner has meant James has been able to take on zero grazing work and utilise the front mower with the Pottinger wagon in tow behind. "It’s been pretty amazing. We have been out mowing and picking up grass in all conditions daily for a number of farmers. The Alpha Motion really responds to ground contour like no other front mower and picking the crop up immediately with the wagon ensures I provide my customers with clean, quality fresh forage" 1 year on from purchasing his Pottinger Torro 5100L wagon and in excess of 2,500 acres of work booked for the coming season James has seen his initial concerns put to rest and can only see a promising and busy silage season with his Pottinger Torro wagon ahead.

"I looked at loader wagons of all brands available in the UK, but none of them came close to the Pottinger wagon".
