Ciao ISOBUS
Report from the field on NOVACAT 8600 Collector mower combination in Italy
On 15 April 2007 the first ISOBUS machine went into operation in Italy (Medicina in der Po plain). The machinery consists of a Novacat 8600 Collector mower combination driven by a Fendt 926 with ISOBUS control system.

The machine was used for the first time at a grass drying operation in Medicina, near Bolognia, in der Po plain. The first 350 hectares were mown using the POWER Control operator panel. As soon as the ISOBUS connector has been fitted to the tractor, the operator panel was removed. Since then the mower has been operated using the ISOBUS Terminal plus Fendt joystick. |

- Straightforward operation of tractor and mower from a single control
No longer do you have to reach for the POWER Control operator panel because the key functions are controlled using the Fendt joystick. The mower can now be operated using your right thumb and at the same time you can adjust the tractor's speed and direction of travel using the Fendt joystick. The functions are freely programmable on the joystick, so each operator can use there own control system setup.
- Tidy tractor cab
Another advantage is the tidiness of the tractor cab because the operator panel is no longer required and you have an unrestricted view of your work area. You also no longer need to route cables into the cab. The machine is plugged into the standardised ISOBUS receptacle on the outside of the tractor, providing the machine with power at the same time as establishing a communication link between the machine and the tractor.
- Headland management
Pressing one button lifts and lowers all three mower units at the same point at the headland. By entering the gap between the front mower and the two rear-mounted units it is possible to raise and lower the mowers depending on the speed of the tractor so they all contact the ground along the same line.
- Load sensing mode
The tractor has also been equipped with automatic load sensing connections.
Load sensing hydraulic connections::
• Pressurized line
• Return line to tank
• Load sensing control line
The capacity of the hydraulic pump is regulated by the hydraulic control line between the machine and the tractor.
With load sensing only the optimum oil flowrate is used for each function instead of pumping oil through the circuit all the time.
If the machine does not required hydraulic pressure, i.e. while all mower units are in the working position, then no oil is supplied to the machine. The oil flowrate is controlled purely hydraulically without the use of electronics.
